A family story
The story of Distillerie Castan begin in 1941. Since this date and during many years, the family Castan walks a walking still in all villages of Tarn and Aveyron. Gilbert at the origin of this activity transmit his know-how to his son and grandson Sébastien actual distiller.
The still is 3 generation of itinerant distillers old. Gilbert and his son, Jacques were itinerant distillers, traveling from village to village to distil fruits of people. A disappeared practice, This forced the third generation to reinvent the business, and to bet on a new drink, under our latitudes, in the Tarn: whisky in 2010.
This one decides to build a distillery of fruit and whisky in 2007. The first whisky was distilled in february 2010. First distillery of Occitanie, Vilanova Whiskies are limited editions with unic features.
Finally, Sébastien Castan has put aside his production of brandy to devote him to whisky. The result is a copper liquid, with aromas of spices, almond, cocoa and hazelnut. The culture of the cereal, brewing, fermentation, distillation and aging are realized in the distillery. In 2018, 80 barrels were produced by Distillery Castan. Since 2019, an expansion project is underway. By 2020, production is expected to be tripled.

First Single Malt distilled by Distillerie Castan. First in the whisky range, to be bottled cask by cask (Single Barrel) in 2013.
Berbie revolutionized and The Tarn whisky has been given back its letters of nobility. Each version is unique.

vilanova - gost
Bottled without cold filtration at 43° C, finished in American oak, which gives it a golden color and fruity aromas, with vanilla predominating. Amber in color, it has orange reflections, the nose is sweet, and is slightly woody.
Malted barley grain, aged in American oak barrels, and white wine barrels, natural color, not cold filtered.

Vilanova - Roja
Roja is the Single Malt version, without cold filtration, bottled at 43°C and 43% and aged in ex French oak red wine casks.
Soft, smooth and greedy, it is a fruity whisky, oriented on the red fruit side.

Barley malt - Peated
vilanova - terrocita
The originality of this Single Malt, with peaty notes, is that it is produced exclusively with malted barley dried in peat, which gives a smoky side on the finish. The whisky is aged in French oak, in ex-white wine casks, natural color, not chill filtered.

vilanova - argile
Last of the range, VILANOVA ARGILE is a peated single malt version, not chill-filtered, bottled at 43% and aged in ex French oak red wine casks. Its peaty notes are produced exclusively with peat-dried malted barley.
